It's cheap to make, can be stored forever and eaten by all animal types (Also by humans in an emergency). There's usually no time for making kibble for the first winter though depending on the climate.I don't do kibble. I only keep grazing animals in larger numbers, muffalo, llama, sheep, and such. Put down a crop of haygrass in their pen enclosure. Set down a stockpile area in the barn structure exclusively for haygrass. Typically, those animals will graze on crops as they grow during viable conditions.Thrumbos do require a lot of feeding. You can check their stats to see how much nutrition they require per day and plan accordingly. For intense animal feeding I like to use silage from Vegetable Garden mod. It requires hay and grains and basically doubles nutrition plus does not require refregiration.

There's no reason to keep your animals fully fed - they will consume 1/2 to 1/4 of the food if you keep them hungry or starving.
